Working Principle of Upper-Roll Universal Plate Rolling Machine

Upper-Roll Universal Plate Rolling Machine

The universal CNC three-roll plate rolling machine with an upper roll, based on technology introduced from Japan, has undergone many years of domestic development and is now widely used across various industries. Below, I will describe the components of this CNC three-roll plate rolling machine. The main body of the equipment consists of the main drive assembly, horizontal travel assembly, upper roll assembly, support roll assembly, tilting assembly, left and right frames, base, and balancing device.

Upper-roll universal plate rolling machine

1. Main Drive System

Located on the right side of the machine, it consists of the main motor, pulleys, reducer, and output gear.

The system can rotate in both forward and reverse directions, providing the power for operation. Torque is transmitted to the lower roll via the main reducer, output gear, and lower roll gear, causing the lower roll to rotate. Friction between the roll and the sheet metal drives the sheet forward, completing the rolling process.

2. Lower Roll and Horizontal Movement Components

The lower roll assembly consists of the lower roll, lower roll bearing housing, lower roll sleeve, and lower roll gear.

The lower roll is made of high-quality carbon steel, is fully quenched and tempered, and has a surface hardness of HRC 48–55.

The horizontal movement mechanism is powered by a horizontal movement motor. Through a worm gear transmission mechanism and a helical gear transmission mechanism, it drives the frame and upper roller assembly to move horizontally, thereby achieving the pre-bending of the workpiece.

3. Upper Roller Assembly

This assembly consists of a hydraulic cylinder, bearing housing, bearings, and the upper roller.

The upper roller is drum-shaped to compensate for partial deflection caused by deformation.

The upper roll is made of 42CrMo steel, is normalized and tempered, and has a surface hardness of HRC 56–62.

4. Support Roll Assembly

Comprises a support roll assembly, an inclined wedge mechanism, and a screw mechanism.

The adjusting screw drives two sets of inclined wedges mounted opposite each other to move closer together or apart, thereby raising or lowering the support roll assembly.

The idler rollers are made of 45 steel and have undergone quenching and tempering treatment.

5. Tilting Mechanism

It consists of a pin shaft, a slide block, a tilting hydraulic cylinder, and a support bracket.

When the tilting hydraulic cylinder operates, it drives the tilting frame to tilt and return to its original position. When the tilting frame is tilted, the workpiece can be removed axially from the tilting end.

6. Frame

Comprises the frame, slide plate, and bushings.

The frame body is a welded assembly that has undergone annealing and shot peening. It is used to mount the main hydraulic cylinder and drive the upper roller assembly in horizontal motion.

7. Base

A box-type welded structure that has undergone annealing and shot peening. It is used to mount various components.

8. Balancing Device

Composed of a crossbeam, support plates, tie rods, and other components.

It is used to press down on the trailing end of the upper roll, keeping the upper roll balanced after the tilting frame is tilted, thereby facilitating the removal of the workpiece.
